"The Gunung Datuk Sojourn - A Breathtaking escape from the Metropolis"
Being a not so outdoor-and- adventurous type of person, climbing
Gunung Datuk in October 2007 was an extraordinary experience for me.
Before I embarked on my trip, I had mixed feelings of fear and
excitement. I could hardly wait for the actual trip to begin because
I was looking forward to my first-hand tryst with nature. I was
anxious as to how I would spend a holiday with complete strangers
whom I was to meet only when the trip commenced. However, right from
the moment we began our trip, we all bonded together as a team and
all my fears were laid to rest by the genuine concern and guidance
offered by my fellow-trekkers.
The entire trip was an awesome experience for me as I not only
discovered the surreal beauty of Gunung Datuk but also understood the
deeper meaning of teamwork and bonding, especially when the joint
efforts of all trekkers culminated in a successful arrival at the
peak. The fresh breeze was very soothing while the scenic view of
nature had a calming effect on our anxious minds and fatigued bodies
as we scaled to the top. I consider myself indeed fortunate to have
been able to enjoy this natural beauty hidden in the wilds.
By the end of our trip, I was eagerly waiting to return back to
Singapore and share my experiences with friends and family. I have
brought back a lot of "first-time" experiences to share - from
soaking my shoes on a muddy trail to passing through a big log
stacked on our way to the leech attack ¨C these and many such
instances which definitely added spice to our expedition.
It was a learning and rewarding experience for me, a memory I shall
always cherish and happy to share with others. As a result, I would
hereby like to invite enthusiastic trekkers to join me on my next
Gunung Datuk sojourn.
