The Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked nation in the Himalaya Mountains, between India and the People's Republic of China in South Asia. It is also called Druk Tsendhen (land of the thunder dragon), because the thunder there is said to be the sound of roaring dragons. It is one of the most isolated and least developed nations in the world; however, the country maintains strong economic and cultural links with India.
Bhutan is a land of soaring snowcapped peaks, alpine meadows and densely forested hills and ravines abounding in exotic flora and fauna. From May to August, hills are covered with an awesome variety of flowers decorated with waterfalls and streams gushing in wild abandon. The landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to the Himalayan heights in the north. It has been identified as one of the 10 bio-diversity hot spots in the world and as one of the 221 global endemic bird areas. They offer a wide variety of activities from the snowman trek to kayaking down the mochhu; from witnessing the colorful festivals in the fortresses to the panoramic mountain flight on Druk Air.
