We board the overnight train from New Delhi to arrive in Haridwar early the next morning.

Day 02: Drive Haridwar to Chefna (1,330m) 9 hrs

Arrive early morning and board the vehicles at the station setting off on a long drive to Chefna beyond Ghat. We drive along the Ganga till Devprayag and then on along the Alaknanda (its tributary) and pass the holy confluences of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag and Nandprayag. At Nandprayag, we leave the Alaknanda and follow the Nandakini River to our first campsite at Chefna on the banks of the River. Overnight at Camp.

Day 03: Trek to Ghunni (2,550m) 4-5 hrs

We start by crossing the bridge on the Nandakini River immediately after leaving our campsite. It is a long but gently undulating climb up to the large village of Ghunni. Our camp is just next to the village school right at the top. Overnight at Camp.

Day 04: Trek to Sem Kherak (2,400m) 6 hrs

As we leave Ghunni the climb is steep, but soon it levels out and we wend our way through grassy meadows and later through dense oak and pine forests till we reach Ramni pass. From the pass we get our first view of Kuari Pass. It’s a long but gradual descent to Sem Kherak, our next campsite. Overnight at Camp.

Day 05: Trek to Pana (2,450m) 6-7 hrs

It’s a long day today as we begin our walk with a long descent through dense forests to the village of Jhenjipani. From here we continue descending for another hour till we reach the suspension bridge on the Birahiganga River. After two hours of climbing, the trail levels out. Another hour or so, we reach Pana and take the trail that leads us to our campsite above the village. Overnight at Camp.

Day 06: Trek to Dhakwani (3,341m) 5-6 hrs

We first climb the ridge immediately above our campsite through dense forests. Thereafter the trail levels out for about an hour before it descends steeply to a big waterfall. The trail then goes steep uphill again for an hour and half before leveling out as we reach another gushing stream. We go on to make the final hour and half’s ascent of the day to reach Upper Dhakwani. Overnight at Camp.

Day 07: Trek to Tali (3310m) 5-6 hrs

We make a very early start today to take advantage of good weather conditions so that we have clear skies when we reach the Kuari Pass. This is the highlight of the trip with breathtaking views of the Greater Himalaya in a 270 degress arc. It is only a 2-3 hours pleasant walk through alpine meadows as we descend to our campsite in the forest at Tali (3310m). Overnight at Camp.

Day 08: Trek to Auli (3,000m) and drive to Pipalkoti 4 hrs trek & 2 hrs drive

Once we have passed upper Tali and we take the small trail just along the Cliffside and later turn left to enter the Gorson meadows. We descend gradually through the meadows and then through forests to reach the roadhead at the GMVN cottages. Our vehicles will be waiting for us at Auli to drive us to our hotel at Pipalkoti.
