Mt. Matebian or Mountain of the Dead is the second highest peaks in Timor-Leste. Stand at 2315m high, the views are spectacular, and it is possible on clear days to see both the north and south coast. Mt. Matebian is considered a scared place by local population. The mountain was a refuge for the Timorese resistance and local people during the Indonesian occupation.
It is most important to be flexible, stay positive and willing to accept all challenges that arise. In developing countries remote area, please do not compare with the standards you are used to back home. The climb up to Ramelau is quite difficult, with the slippery rocks and landslide. The Guest house is a very simple guest house, electricity will be available from 7pm to 12midnight. Please expect simple dishes at the guesthouse. Simple breakfast such as local bread (paun) and steam tapioca/cassava (occasionally) with tea & Timor Coffee can be expected. As meats consider luxury in this area as it’s not always available, we strongly suggest to bring own can food supply,

Sat Day 1 Singapore – Dili – Baucau (D)
Upon arrival at Nicolau Lobato International airport, meet and greet by our local partner representative and proceed to Baucau, Timor-Leste’s second largest city, just a 3hours drive from Dili. The drive offers spectacular views along the coastline and rugged cliffs. The cool pleasant climate and outstanding beaches will greet you. The city has many old Portuguese buildings, wonderful colourful market and unspoilt beaches. Overnight Baucau Beach or similar.
Sun Day 2 Baucau – Quelicai (B/L/D)
After breakfast at the hotel, drive an hour to Quelicai, start your easy trek from Quelicai’s impressive church, climb to Lakudala, then work down the Turanaba Ridgeline which is dotted with our families Traditional Houses (Uma Adat). Watch the sunset as you descend to the lush rice fields with views out to the north coast of Timor. Continue the drive to Matebian Guest house. Overnight Matibian Guesthouse.
Mon Day 3 Quelicai – Dili (B/L)
Early rise for a short trek to the summit where you could see the Statue of Virgin Mary and Christ at the top of the mountain and marvel at the beautiful sunrise. Return to the guest house for breakfast and rest. After lunch, depart to Dili. Overnight Hotel in Dili
Tue Day 4 Dili – Singapore (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed with city tour of Dili: Visit JESUS STATUE (CRISTORAE) located atop Cape Fatucama at the eastern tip of Dili. Driving pass the Palacio de Govierno, Casa Europa, Motael Church, the Farol Lighthouse, Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Presidential Palace, visit Tais market. Drive towards the west part of Dili, visit TASITOLU PEACE PARK, the three salt lakes is being established as a park and reserve. Proceed to POPE JOHN PAUL II monument, sits atop the high ground overlooking the area and commemorates his visit. Noon, transfer to airport for your departure to Singapore. Home sweet home.
