Chin state on the western side of Myanmar close to the India border is truly one of the last frontiers and any adventurers dream. Look at any map and you will discover the road ends halfway your end destination and indeed it is a trip through an area you can only reach on foot. We are connecting the ancient kingdom of Bagan and Mrauk U during this adventurous overland trip that takes 7 days and offers fantastic scenery, remote traditional Chin villages, plantations, jungle, river valleys and of course the fabled ancient cities of Bagan and Mrauk U.
For the first time in centuries it is allowed to travel through this forgotten part of Myanmar where time stood still and modern day facilities like telephone, electricity or running water are left behind for a few days – not even to mention internet. The facilities during the trip are very, very basic in local houses. Mosquito nets and blankets are provided; bathroom facilities are either at a communal village well or in the river while the food will be rice, noodles and locally prepared meals by the local guide.
Season: Oct till April.
Note: This is an adventure trip and does not offer any comfort during the trip from Bagan to Mrauk U. The area we are travelling has no electricity, no telephone connections or medical facilities. Due to the adventurous character of this trip the arrival in Mrauk U might be later than plan. Overnight stays are with basic sleeping conditions (a thin bamboo mat on a wooden floor) and there might be no toilet or shower facilities (apart from the village well or a river). Participants agree to do this trip at their own risk and agree that X-Trekkers and their partners cannot be held responsible if any of the above changes during the trip.
Participants have to be in good health and used to walking – it might be possible occasionally to do a part of the trip on the back of a motorbike (at own expenses) if you feel the walks are too long. Good shoes for walking as well as water shoes (for walks in or near the river) are recommended as well as a sarong (to cover when taking shower at public washing place in village), torch, mosquito spray, thick clothes (as it can be cold at night in the mountain).
