Day 2 Sils – Maloja – Lake Cavloc – Sils | +300 m, about 4 hours of walking. Return from Maloja to Sils, (3km by bus)
Stroll up to the quaint village of Isola, on the lake shores that lead to the beautifully scattered forest of Cembro pines to the village of Maloja, (pronounced “Maloya”) so dear to the painter Ségantini. Splendid climb on the le Val de Cavloc and its lake where the Piz Salecina reflects. Maloja is right at the foot of Piz Longhin, which is the source of the rivers joining the Rhine, the Danube and the delta of Po. Overnight in 3* hotel in Sils.
Day 3 Sils – Val Roseg and the Bernina glaciers | About 3 hours of walking, +300m, -850 m.
Get ready for an exciting day starting with a short transfer to Corvatsch where we take the cableway 300m from the Fuorcla Surlej Pass at 2755 m over the Val Roseg, facing the Morteratsch glaciers, the Bernina (4049m), the Scerscen peak (3971m), the Pic Roseg (3920m), and the Sella and Glüschaint peaks: a magnificent glacial cirque. Overnight in the beautiful mountain hotel Roseggletscher.
Day 4 Val Roseg – Ponteresina – Morteratsch glacier | About 5 hours of walking, + 500m, -700 m.
Descent by horse barouche to Ponteresina, a very beautiful village of the Upper Engadine. Board Bernina Express to Morteratsch, followed by a walk up the Val Morteratsch to the Morteratsch glacier. Enjoy the view on the Piz Palu, the Piz Cambrena and the Bernina (4020m). It’s one of the most beautiful mountain circles in the Alps! We may walk until the Boval lodge (2459m), savouring the sight of the Bernina glacier throughout. Overnight in in hotel Morteratsch, close to the glacier.
Day 5 Morteratsch – Zermatt
Today begins with a private transfer to St Moritz, followed by another transfer to Zermatt via the Glacier Express, a unique experience as it is “the world’s slowest express train”! An adventure of 7.5 hours during which you will cross 291 bridges, 91 tunnels and the Oberalp pass at 2033m before the descent to Chur at 590m. You then continue to Zermatt, the capital of Swiss mountaineering, at the foot of Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. Overnight in a 3* hotel.
Day 6 Matterhorn, Zermatt valley and many peaks | About 5 hours of walking, +/- 600m.
Stroll around Zermatt with scenic views over the Matterhorn, the valley of Zermatt and many “4000m” mountains. Don’t miss the balcony leading to the refuge of Schönbielhütte to the East of Zmutt, a small alpine village with almost exclusively wooden construction. Walk in the direction of the lodge and back. Overnight in a 3* hotel.
Day 7 Zermatt : Gornergrat | 4h30 | -1500m
A great variety of walks are possible starting in Zermatt. We recommend that you take the walk to Gornegrat because of the breath-taking views of the Matterhorn, the exceptional glaciers of Monte Rosa and the other surrounding peaks. The rack railway will take you up 3090m to the ridge of Gornergrat. This railway was built between 1896 and 1898 and is considered one of the 7 marvels of alpine tourism! Expect a one hour trip to clear 5 kms of railway and 1500 m of ascend. Several different itineraries lead you back to Zermatt; we especially like the ones by Riffelalp or Findelm, from 3 to 3 1⁄2 hrs of walking. Overnight in a 3* hotel.
Day 8 Zermatt – Zurich (Drive about 3.5 hrs)
Departure after the breakfast via a taxi transfer to Zurich airport.
If you do not want to include the taxi transfer from Zurich airport to Sils: End of the stay after breakfast at Zermatt.
