This exclusive tour gives a good place to the most spectacular part of the Aravis, around 4 of the most authentic and best protected villages : Grand Bornand, Chinaillon, Clusaz and St Jean de Sixt, and the town of Thônes, homeland of the Reblochon and of course Talloires, near the lake and the beautiful city of Annecy. Near the Aravis range and the Pointe Percée, panoramic, varied and at an ideal height, the massif of the Aravis offers an idealized image of the mountain, brighten up with mountain pastures, and spread chapels…

The Aravis are part of the Pre-Alps limestone range, between the massif of the Beauges in the South and the massif of the Bornes in the North. In the heart of the Haute Savoie, near the Lake Annecy, Megève and Mont Blanc, it’s one of the most charming massifs, a country of traditions, mountain dwellers, a dynamic country but which new how to preserve intact its architectural integrity and which will give you varied and magnificent hikes.

The tour will end with a beautiful arrival at Lake Annecy, one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Alps.

From the Aravis to Annecy Lake

Day 1 Arrival in St Jean de Sixt
Arrival in an authentic village in the Aravis. Accommodation in a 3* hotel in St Jean de Sixt, very calm with a nice view. The hotel has a swimming pool, you can also visit the village.

Day 2 St Jean de Sixt – Les Confins
This first day is soft until the plateau of the Confins.
2 options:
1/ you walk by the Mouilles de la Perrière and the Tête du Danay (1731m) with a beautiful panoram on the Aravis range and on the Mount Lachat de Châtillon and the valley of Bouchet.
4h00, +750m, -350m
2/ a longer version by the Pointe de Beauregard and the pass of the Aravis. About 6h00 to 6h30 of walk, 21km +1220m, -830m.

Day 3 Plateau des Confins – Chinaillon
You walk by the pass of Annes (1721m), passing by the bottom of the summit of the Aravis : the Pointe Percée (2750m). The high mountain pastures of the Confins plateau, after that you will reach the Bouchet valley in the beautiful corrie, under the Pointe Percée (2750m) and the Pointe du Roulletaz (2077m). The path by-passes some sides of the mountain to cross easily the pass of Borneronde and the pass of Annes (1721m).

You can have a lunch break at the cottage at the pass of Annes.

Descent to the halmet of Chinaillon under the ridges of the Pointes d’Almet, Grande Combe and the Pointe de Deux Heures.
6h00, 15km, +800m, -850m.
(short option 5h15 of walk, 14,5km, +600m, -650m)

Day 4 Chinaillon – Grand Bornand
For average to good walker : climb by the ridge of Aiguille verte (2000m) and the Lessy Lake. The view from the Aiguille verte to the summit of the Aravis (Pointe Percée) is splendid, after that you cross the pass of Forclaz and go down to the hamlet of Mayse (sheepfold, cottage, drinks, snacks). The stage continues with a climb to the pass of PLanay between the Roc des Tours and the Roc des Charmieux and a descent to reach the itinerary that will lead you to the Mouilles, Tannaz and the Grand Bornan.
About 6h45 of walking, 18km, +1070m (no technical difficulties), -1450m. You can picnic in the chalet of Mayse.
Short walk also possible of 4h to 5h for this day, +470 m, -650m.

Day 5 Grand Bornand – Thônes
2 itineraries to go to Thônes:
1/ You go to St Jean de Sixt via the small pastures of Pochons and Frasses (+/-230m, about 1h45 walking) or you take the local bus to St Jean de Sixt (2,5km) and you walk to Thônes via the pastures of Mont, Fours and Fételay. Nice view over the Tourette massif. 5h30 to 6h30, 14,5 km, +870m, -1130 m. the time of walk depends if you take or not the local bus to reach the departure of the walk.
2/ Longer but not difficult : you reach St Jean de Sixt via small pastures of Pochons and Frasses (+/-230m, about 1h45 walking) and you climb to the plateau of Beauregard and “Le Planet” 5h30 to 6h50, 18km, +1050m, -1240m. The time of walk depends if you take or not the local bus to reach the departure of the walk.

Day 6 Thônes – Annecy
Early transfer to Montremont (9km), (850m).
Climb to the bottom of the Tourette by the pass of Nantets (1426m); discover of the pass of the Lake Annecy that speards in heart of the moutains. Descent to the bottom of the Lanfon by the path around the lake. You reach Talloires near the lake. 3 options for this walk from 04h30 to 6h00 of walk. From +600 to +850 and -1000 to -1270
As you decide to do.
You take the omnibus (boat that goes around the lake to reach Annecy) by Doussard and Duingt.
Overnight in Annecy in a 3* hotel in B&B

We recommend you to have diner in one of the many restaurants in the old town of Annecy.

Day 7 Annecy – Pass of Bluffy – Annecy
You can take time to visit the city, the « Alps’ Venice »
However, here is a nice walk above Annecy:
To reach the pass of Bluffy (7km), take the local bus towards Thônes, the same you took to go to St Jean de Sixt on the first day.
From there, you climb to the ridge of the Mount Barret (1065m) that you will croos to reach the pass of Contrebandiers (1054m) and the Mount Baron, the veiw is stunning (1254m). The way follows the ridge to Mount Veyrier (1291m) and goes donw to the shore of the lake. 5h to 5h30 of walk, +735m, -920m.

Average to good walker, you need to have hiking experience with 4h to 6h30 of walk per day and +400m to +1100m.

You only carry a back pack for the day with the necessary for your hike and the packed lunch. Your luggage will be transported by vehicle.

Lake Annecy is one of the cleanest lakes in France, there is a beach (paying) in Talloires and a free beach in Annecy.
You can rent little sailing boats or windsurfs at the water sports centre in Annecy.

In Talloires: the Inn “auberge” of Père Bise, the Inn “auberge “de Talloires are some of the finest tables in France.
The prices are generally very expensive and reservation is required!

You can park your car in a parking behind the 1st hotel during the whole tour. You can pick it up by bus or taxi and the end. Please call the hotel before your arrival and leave the keys in case they need to move the car.
From Annecy to St Jean de Sixt :

  • There are buses from Monday to Saturday at 08h15, 09h30, 11h, 12h30 (Wednesday and Saturday), 14h15, 14h15, 15h45, 17h15, 18h15 and 19h15. Departure on Sunday at 08h15, 11h, 14h15, 17h15 and 19h15. The journey takes about 45 minutes.
