CAMP HEARTWARE 2002
Following in the steps of Operation Shangri-La, X-Trekkers brings you another exciting opportunity to embark on a community service cum adventure travel project – CAMP HEARTWARE! CAMP HEARTWARE is a participative traveling experience, incorporating a children’s camp and adventure travel into a 15-day itinerary, for maximum exposure during one’s travel to the host country’s sights, sounds and people. Camp Heartware aims at encouraging greater interaction between travelers and the locals for an exchange of understanding between our cultures and lifestyles; thereby fostering longer term relationships with the locals; bringing heartware from the travelers, with the eventual aim of developing brainware in the host country. 5 days of the adventure will be dedicated to a 3-day camp for the village children, which will be planned and conducted by travelers. Activities during this phase will be self-reliant, requiring travelers to cook and undertake basic everyday chores personally. Accommodation will be in tents. The remaining 10 days will be for adventure traveling where we explore the exotic sights and sounds of Southwest China. Travelers will be required to contribute and participate in planning the programme for the children’s camp prior to departure with a host organization. Liaison with the host organization will be through X-Trekkers Adventure Centre. Of the 5 days reserved for the camp, the first and last days are for preparation and packing up respectively. The camp programme will be from the 4th to 6th day.
WHERE
The project will be carried out in the vicinity of BianDan Hills. BianDan Hill lies at the upstream of the Huangguoshu Waterfall, where 2 rivers and numerous streams converge. Ancient mills operate less than 1km from the river. In the fields nearby are nestled many village huts made of stones. Amidst the wonderful scenery and peaceful environment live traditional villagers who provide ample opportunities for travelers to interact and understand the local culture.
