Mt Bromo & Ijen Crater

Mt. Bromo, at 2,329 m, is the most iconic natural landscape in Indonesia. Even with its top completely blown off, it still beckons majestically with the crater inside constantly belches white sulphurous smoke. It may be not the tallest mountain in Indonesia but its stunning beauty lies in its unearthly dramatic setting, which swoons many travellers with its incredible golden sunrise.

Ijen volcano contains the world’s largest acidic volcanic crater lake, famous for its turquoise colour and the natural phenomenon blue flame, formed by the heat and sulphur gas from the crater. These part of East Java will dazzle your precious journey with breathtaking views that cannot be found elsewhere on the island of Java.

Testimonials

The crew is considerate and always ready to assist us.  We did not expect the weather to be so cold. best moment of the trip: Watching the sunrise at Mt Penanjakan. least enjoyed: The long car journey.

Grand Palace Hotel Malang looked very deserted. Believed they switched the buffet breakfast to a la carte menu because there were just too few guests.  The room is also too small to fit in the third bed. There is barely enough space to open the door.

Leong Chou Sern (27-30 Sep 2013)

When we reach the top of the mountain awaiting for the sun to rise. Everything to be worth for climbing up.

Wonderful

Grace (20-23 Dec 12)

Everything is in order, from start to finish. Our guide and driver are the best!

Best moments: The sunrise at Mt.Bromo, and sliding down its slopes after. 😉

MEMORABLE

Mylene C. Lopez (23-26 May 2013)

The driving was bad in the beginning but we got it corrected as we went along less wild overtakings. We do like to get there safe.

THe crater at Mt Bromo was not safe very narrow and no fence.

Best moment: THe mt Bromo visit as we could not get uop Ijen.

Least enjoyed: the Drive at night

Søren Jacobsen (26-30 Dec 2011)

The traffic conditions were horrific and the driver had to adapt his driving. At times it was testing on the nerves.

Best Moment : At the top of the volcanoes.

Least Enjoyed: The many hours spent sitting in the car

Do not use the grand palace at Malang. Cemera Indah Bromo obviously rips its customers by charging well over the local price for coffee.

beelin baxter (20-23 July 13)

The guide and driver from Indonesia were excellent and very helpful. The time on the road for Ijen and Bromo is very long but it can’t be helped. These are the 2 star attractions.  The trekking was very easy.

Although Bromo can be a tourist trap, the guide Gigay did a good job of ensuring our safety. The driver John aslo drove safely.  The trek up to Ijen crater lake was most enjoyable. Liked the challenge. The long travelling times on the car were tiring.

More could be done to actually introduce us to Malang. Although we went exploring on our own, there were alot of eateries, places we could not find on our own. The plantation at Malang was slightly boring. There were only apples. No other fruits.

Melvin Lee (25-28 July 2013)
