Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Trek
For over 1000 years, people from all walks of life, including retired emperors and aristocrats, have embarked on the arduous pilgrimage to Kumano. The Nakahechi Imperial Trail leads you east into the mountains towards Kumano Sanzan. This route, known as ‘the Imperial Route,’ was used by emperors and nobles from the 10th century onwards. It is considered the most popular and accessible path of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. While the Nakahechi Trail doesn’t require peak fitness, it does demand strength and endurance, as trekkers must cover at least 6-8 hours of hiking each day.
