Mt Shikha (4447m) Trek – A Trekker’s Paradise
The Shika range boasts spectacular wildlife, forests, alpine lakes, and the aroma of rhododendrons, azaleas, and wild irises. If you are lucky, you may see the fabled blue poppy in bloom.
Treks, combined with visits to Gyalthang’s Sumtsenling Monastery, to Gyalwa Ringa temple, and evenings savouring hotpots by the fireside at the Trinyi Community Center will give visitors an intimate glimpse into people’s lifestyles in this frontier region.
This journey will cross the eastern Tibetan Plateau, taking us from west & northwest Yunnan to West Sichuan, through old Tibetan monastic towns. The mountain route is a challenging one, crossing several passes with the altitude exceeding 3,300 m (10,000 ft). However, the overland journey will allow us to go deep into the pockets of Tibetan life and culture; meeting the locals and visiting monasteries in remote areas. Along the route, stop to talk with lamas and learn about the intricacies of Tibetan Buddhism; Horse ride or trek in Yading Nature Reserve and walk in some of the most remote areas of China.
This is a tour around one of the most intriguing cultural variants of the Tibetan world. In ShangriLa are found customs and dialects no longer existing in other Tibetan areas, influenced by the surrounding multi-ethnic potpourri even as they influence those in turn. One of the world’s richest hotspots of biodiversity, the ShangriLa region’s cultural and natural sights are a delightful surprise for the first-time and experienced Tibet traveller alike.
