On a typical day its peak floats above the clouds providing the most spectacular sunset and sunrises for trekkers. Overnight temperature drops to freezing cold all year round. Trekking to the summit takes about 3 hours from the highland village of Hato Builiko.

Mt. Matebian or Mountain of the Dead is the second highest peaks in Timor-Leste. Stand at 2315m high, the views are spectacular, and it is possible on clear days to see both the north and south coast. Mt. Matebian is considered a scared place by local population. The mountain was a refuge for the Timorese resistance and local people during the Indonesian occupation.
