Take a step back in time to Solo’s royal past with a visit to two royal palaces: Keraton Kasunanan and Pura Mangkunegaran. Kasunanan is a two-centuries- old palace, built in 1745 by King Paku Buwono II when he moved the kingdom from Kartasura to Desa (village) Sala, now Solo. The keraton was built in stages and was finished during the reign of Paku Buwono X (1893 – 1939). Interesting landmarks around the keraton complex include, among others, Alun-Alun Lor, Alun-Alun Kidul, Sasana Sumewa, Sitihinggil, Kamandungan, Sri Manganti, and Kedhaton. Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XIII is the current descendant of the Pakubuwono dynasty.
