The Jotunheimen National Park in Norway is indeed a natural treasure, offering some of Scandinavia’s most spectacular landscapes. This tour provides an opportunity to explore this majestic massif, which boasts Norway’s two highest peaks, Galdhopigen (2469 m) and Glittertind (2464 m).

The park is a hiker’s paradise, with vast and pristine valleys inhabited by reindeer, ptarmigan, and of course, adventurous hikers trekking between refuges. The sense of isolation and wilderness here is truly extraordinary.

The high mountain terrain is awe-inspiring, with 11 peaks soaring above 2000 meters, often adorned with glaciers that extend down to relatively low elevations. It’s a place where the raw beauty of nature takes center stage, offering an unforgettable experience for outdoor enthusiasts.

 Some Info

1. LEVEL

Intermediate level.
The trip typically involves walking for 1.5 to 7 hours per day. You can expect to encounter positive altitude differences ranging from 500 to 1100 meters and negative altitude differences between 500 to 1360 meters during the day’s trekking. The terrain may include technical passages, at times quite challenging, along trails that traverse a mineral-rich environment. You’ll experience total immersion in nature, surrounded by stunning landscapes and wilderness throughout your hiking experience.

2. LUGGAGE TRANSFER

You only carry a backpack for the day with the necessary for your hike and the picnic lunch. Your luggage will be transferred by vehicle and be collected at the hotel/refuge except for 2 nights in Glitterheim and Spiterstulen (with only your spare and overnight belongings). You will sometimes have to collect your luggage at the boat landing stage, near your accommodation.. Max 10 kg per luggage per person.

3. ACCOMMODATION

During your trip, you’ll spend 1 night in a hotel in Oslo, where the room will accommodate 2 to 3 people and include a private bathroom. For the remaining 6 nights, you’ll stay in shelters managed by the organization DNT (Den Norske Turistforening). These shelters are well-equipped, offering collective rooms or dormitories with amenities such as duvets provided. Since the shelters are guarded, there’s no need to carry food except for the day’s picnic.

The living areas in these shelters resemble comfortable mountain chalets, complete with panoramic views of the mountains and ample sofas for socializing in the evenings. Additionally, the Spiterstulen refuge features an indoor swimming pool, available for access at a nominal fee of around 40 NOK.

Itinerary

We may have to modify the indicated itinerary: either at the level of the organization (problem of overload of the accommodations, duplication of the groups, modification of the state of the ground, landslides, degraded trails, etc.), or directly because of the guide (weather, group level, etc.). These modifications are always made in your interest, for your safety and for a better comfort!
